about

"The one thing you know for certain when a new BOK album emerges is that you don't know what you'll be getting. There's a chance that it'll be catchy cut-up breakcore pop, but it's just as likely to be some free-remix improvised glitchy abstract noise-scape, or some megastretched slab of ambient slowcore, or a dada comedy spoken word album made from audiobooks, or a hard-hitting and worldly topical audiodocumentary, or simply someone else's works smooshed on top of each other - point is, BOK's work is so wildly unpredictable, and so consistently so, that one literally must expect the unexpected, every damn time.

And yet, even though her output is so staggeringly diverse, the input is always the same - it'll be made out of recycled media. A living paradox, BOK has dedicated her creative life to never creating, but forever remixing, reinterpreting, reusing - a media Womble, making good use of the things that she finds, things that the everyday folk leave behind.

So what have we got this time, with her 41st release in the sprawling 'compop' catalogue? This time, it's exactly what it says on the lid - 'miscellectronica' - perhaps the most apt of all her neologisms thus far. There's glitchy breakcore, there's inappropriate heavy metal drumming, there's witty combinations of unexpected songs, there's completely random shit thrown together for no good reason, there's cinematic spoken word, there's some popsmearing, there's some mashupping, there's some popchopping, there's some octaverting, there's some dadamidi... one is tempted to say 'the usual', but of course, there is no 'usual'.

If there is one word that defines it, it is indeed 'miscellectronica' - and no other word seems quite adequate.

Well done, Ms O'Kneel, well done."

FROM THE ARTIST:

💿 the idea for 'Giving In The Name' was originally by the surrealist artist Kristian Eldritch. thanks and hope u like what i did with it!

💿 'A Live Baboon Hoists Slaw' is an anagram of 'A Live Albino's Showboats', which was the source track i fed into the Beatmachine to make it

💿 'Albino Fireworks' was created automatically by running the PopChopper to fragment the original tracks 'A Live Albino's Showboats' and ''The Fireworks Industry' (both from PopChop Shitwave from 2021).

💿 'Albimidino Firewormidiks' was created by then taking 'Albino Fireworks' and separating it into just a drum stem and an 'everything else' stem, turning the 'everything else' stem into shitty midi piano, then putting them back together again. THERE WILL BE LOTS MORE OF THIS PROCESS, I'M VERY EXCITED BY IT.

💿 'Tonight's Seed Idiots' was created by taking 'Seed Idiots' from the 'R&D' album from 2018, and running the same separator program to split it into a drum stem and an 'everything else' stem, and then also a vocal stem and an 'everything else' stem, and then putting some Daveed Diggs rapping over just the drum stem.

💿 'Seed Idiots (Just Drums and Distorted Vox)' was created by then putting just the separated drum stem and the separated vocal stem together, with some distortion on the vocal stem.

💿 'Divided Ox (Just Roses and Distorted Smut)' was then created by running 'Seed Idiots (Just Drums and Distorted Vox)' through the PopChopper. Anagram etc.

💿 'The Crystal Ship (Postpopsmear Mix)' was created by doing the popsmear process onto just the backing music of 'The Crystal Ship', while letting Morrison remain unpopsmeared. Which is why it's a 'postpopsmear' mix rather than a 'popsmear' proper. THIS IS ALSO A COOL IDEA AND THERE WILL PROBABLY BE MORE OF THESE KINDA THINGS TOO.

💿 'Firearm Facial Novae' is an anagram of 'American Love Affair', and is a popchopped version of that track. Same with 'Tarty Pricks' and 'Party Tricks', obviously.

💿 'Whemidin The Parmidity's Ovemidir (Half Speed)' is the Billie Eilish song 'When The Party's Over' midified, except the midi playback is half speed. It's not stretched, it's just played slower.

💿 oh, and the cover art was created by asking neural net artbots to create 'album cover art for a new Buttress O'Kneel CD called "Postcorewave Miscellectronica" '. no other details were given, no other prompts - all the images here (there is a different one for every track!) were created from just that one prompt. the hardest part of making this album was choosing which one should be the 'actual' main cover art.

💿 thanks as always to ADMNSHN from the IMWL for his lovely faux-documentarian blurbs or whatever u call it. liner notes? maybe they're liner notes. anyway, whatever they are, they're always great. 💋

about

Buttress O'Kneel Australia

“Words like "mashup" and "remix" don't really do justice to Buttress O'Kneel's method - Top 40 pop crap gets sliced, diced, and tossed into a dizzying, exciting hardcore electro stew. Compared to other djs who timidly drop a Vanilla Ice acapella over a Chemical Bros intro just to move a dance floor, O'Kneel shreds copyrights with a blood-curdling vehemence. Smash the state!”
