about

"Lou Reed's groundbreaking electronic noise album is 45 this year. And what better way to celebrate than by ramming it through an online midifier and converting the whole damn album into chaotic fake piano samples?

Clearly this was Buttress O'Kneel's thought process, for here it is - the entire unloved 1975 monsterpiece, converted into MIDI piano sounds by anonymous robots. Does it make the original album any better? Any worse? Is it even the same thing at all? Is music created by machines, then converted into other sounds by other machines 45 years later, even actually music? Would Lou Reed like it? Would he feel offended? Did Buttress even listen to it herself? Or did she just press "convert" and then "upload"? Is computer-generated music even for humyns to listen to in the first place? Or is music made by machines really only for other machines to appreciate? In which case, by feeding Metal Machine Music into an online MIDI converter, was Buttress actually playing the music to its intended audience - other machines - and any MIDI files actually heard by humyns are just some un/lucky byproduct?

Whatever the case, it is undeniable that Lou Reed's original 1975 work was derided by many, ignored by many more, and actually enjoyed by a teensy subset of humyn beings so incredibly puny as to be pretty much statistically null. Let's hope Buttress's 2020 midipop reworking of the material lives up to that, eh?"

about

Buttress O'Kneel Australia

“Words like "mashup" and "remix" don't really do justice to Buttress O'Kneel's method - Top 40 pop crap gets sliced, diced, and tossed into a dizzying, exciting hardcore electro stew. Compared to other djs who timidly drop a Vanilla Ice acapella over a Chemical Bros intro just to move a dance floor, O'Kneel shreds copyrights with a blood-curdling vehemence. Smash the state!”
