about

"When Buttress O'Kneel says she's releasing a 'remix' album, the mind boggles: isn't that what she normally does? Apparently the difference is that with this release, at least one party involved was not only aware of their part in the 'dizzying, exciting hardcore electro stew', but actually literally asked for it. These remixes are 'official', 'sanctioned', and 'above board', but only in reference to the particular bands that asked Ms O'Kneel to remix their work; we're fairly certain that Madonna, Michael Jackson, and the B-52s (etc) never offically gave permission to be thrown into the mix. Parsing out the 'official' from the 'bootleg' becomes a game of semantics - who exactly is this a 'remix' of anyway? So, just for the record, the acts that offically sanctioned these remixes by Buttress O'Kneel are: New Horizons in Violence; FourPlay String Quartet; DJ Foundation; Brokoli; the Blacksmoke Organisation; and Shannon O'Neill. Some of the pieces are tits-out breakcore monstrosities; others are subtle experiments in glitchophonics. All of them are old: now, in 2015, most of these are a decade old and counting. Relevant? Interesting? Badly-mixed? You be the judge."

Tracks 2, 5, 8, 11 + 14 originally created for FourPlay String Quartet using tracks from their album "Now To The Future", 2006, but have remained unreleased due to fear of litigation.

Tracks 3, 6 +9 originally created for the "Danger: Global Warming" project, not sure if they were ever released in any form anywhere. We're guessing this was pre-2008, given that the official releases are around then. This is about as close to working with the KLF as I'll ever get. Squee!

Track 4 was originally released as part of Brokoli's "Money Yay!" compilation of remixes, May 14, 2009, released by illphabetik.

Track 10 was originally remixed for DJ Foundation in 2008ish, from source material from the original album "Paradise", 2009. Not sure if this ever saw the light of day.

Track 13 was remixed for Shannon O'Neill from his album "Minimal / Liminal", 2000. Again, not sure this has ever been heard by anyone.

about

Buttress O'Kneel Australia

“Words like "mashup" and "remix" don't really do justice to Buttress O'Kneel's method - Top 40 pop crap gets sliced, diced, and tossed into a dizzying, exciting hardcore electro stew. Compared to other djs who timidly drop a Vanilla Ice acapella over a Chemical Bros intro just to move a dance floor, O'Kneel shreds copyrights with a blood-curdling vehemence. Smash the state!”
